HRHS HONOR ROLL

The first Honor Roll Assembly of the year took place at Harlem Renaissance last week. We honored students that are excelling in their classes, and those that are achieving perfect attendance. We hope to motivate others to be part of our honor roll! Congratulations Harlem Renaissance Honor Roll Students. Keep up the good work!

Halloween Celebration!!!!

This year’s Halloween Celebration was filled with good food and even better costumes. Students and staff joined together for pie eating contests, the “make your own mummy race” and honey bun bobbing as well! Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a chance to meet new students that have recently joined our HRHS community.

A good time was had by all!

Urban Farm Edible Education Trip October 13th with Mr. Gray

The Urban Farm Edible Education Program offers a formal opportunity for local K – 12 students, prioritizing public schools in neighboring East Harlem and the South Bronx, to engage in topics not often addressed in school: their food, how it is grown, and how it contributes to their health and well-being, as well as to their communities and the greater food system.

RED RIBBON WEEK

Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985.  In honor of  Kiki’s memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin.  Parents then began to form coalitions using Camarena as their model while embracing his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions adopted the symbol of Camarena’s memory, the Red Ribbon. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

MJ The Musical
This Month’s attendance incentive was a trip to see MJ- The Musical.
The students were accompanied by Ms. Osorio, Ms. George and Mr.Hyde.

SHE is a non-profit, social impact organization that celebrates, embraces and empowers young women of color. We believe every girl has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. However not every girl is given a fair shot to activate her limitless potential. This is especially true for young women of color. Through mentorship, public service, enrichment programs, and personal development retreats, SHE creates a community and safe space for all young women to amplify their authentic voices, grow and contribute their talents, and powerfully transform their lives and communities.

This Year at Harlem Renaissance.... SPORTS!

This year Harlem Renaissance has joined Urban Assembly School for Global Commerce H.S. to form a PSAL Basketball Team and Girls Volleyball Team. The Basketball team is is currently in their preseason games. They are also getting ready to form the Girls Volleyball Team. Games start on October 28th through February 10,2023. We are now having tryouts for the Girls Basketball Team on October 27th! Go Harlem Renaissance! Mr. Gray would like to invite staff and students to attend the games to support our players. Click on the button below for the full schedule of HRHS/UA Basketball games.

At HRHS, our mission as a team is to enable students who are over-aged and under-credited, who often lack the confidence and skills to compete in traditional settings.  Our goal is to provide students with resources and supports to become successful and collaborative problem solvers, equipping them to address real-world complexities with integrity and accountability to create pathways for their own success.
